What is PPF?

Public Provident Fund

PPF is a government-backed, 15-year savings scheme open to all Indian residents, offering tax-free interest and full EEE tax status. It is one of the few investments where the deposit, the interest, and the maturity amount are all completely tax-exempt.

The interest rate is set quarterly by the Ministry of Finance and compounded annually. You can deposit between ₹500 and ₹1,50,000 per year, and the account can be extended in blocks of 5 years after the initial 15-year term, with or without further contributions.

Partial withdrawals are allowed from the 7th financial year onward, and loans against the PPF balance are available between the 3rd and 6th year.
